Primarily downrated for the accessibility. I was forced to upgrade Filemaker because I purchased a new computer. What I didn’t realize that in trying to upgrade files it constantly asked for an account name and password – even when I never used one! The “help” area was not useful and believe me I tried everything.
I’m back to using my old Filemaker on an older machine until I can figure this out!

Filemaker is an excellent and very useful program. However, for Mac users who want full flexibility and efficiency it has one huge drawback. In Windows Filemaker you can create a customer/friends database from which you can create and use a button to dial the phone at a single click. This feature is inexplicably not available for Mac users and Filemaker support insists that it will never be. For those businesses doing small telemarketing operations this is a deal-breaker.

If you own a Mac, this is your only option unless you want to go through the hassle of installing XP and then Access or Paradox – which are far superior to File Maker. The documentation (help files) are not very helpful at all. They seem to be focused on scripts and not on some very basic things (such as adding records in portal view, etc.). There is too much emphasis on the wow factor and not enough on the basics. Not everyone who owns a Mac is a high-end user, developer, etc.
